How to Prevent Pancreatitis?

  • Understanding :
  • The pancreas becomes inflamed and the digestive enzymes that should be active only inside the intestine start breaking down the pancreatic cell itself.

What is the cause of pancreatitis?

  1. Gall stones
  • GB stones made of hardened bile, can trigger acute pancreatitis if they leave the gall bladder and pass through or get lodged in the common bile duct

      2. Alcohol

  • A second common cause of acute pancreatitis after gallstones and the leading cause of chronic pancreatitis.

      3. Other Cause

  • Increased fat in the blood
  • Increased calcium level in the blood
  • Abdominal injury that damages the pancreas
  • Hormonal abnormalities
  • Medications such as estrogen, steroids, antiviral, and diabetic drugs
  • Viral infection
  • Genetic abnormalities of the pancreas
  • Smoking
  • Obesity

 

  • Prevention:
  • Limit alcohol consumption
  • Protect the pancreas from the toxic effect of alcohol and reduce the risk of pancreatitis
  • Eat a heart-healthy diet
  • Whole grains
  • Fresh fruits and vegetables
  • Avoid fatty or fried foods
  • Full-fat dairy products
  • Low cholesterol accumulation
  • Control cholesterol level
  • Exercise regularly and lose excess weight
  • People who are overweight are, more likely to develop gallstones, which leads to a greater risk of acute pancreatitis, Losing extra pounds
  • Maintaining a healthy weight by eating a balanced diet
  • Engaging in regular physical activity
  • Avoid smoking
  • Smoked were 1.5 times more likely to develop pancreatitis than non-smokers
  • Skip crash diet
  • The caveat to losing weight is to do it gradually
  • When going into crash–diet mode, prompting quick weight loss
  • Reducing sugar-rich food
  • Drinking plenty of water
  • Taking small but frequent meals
  • In gallstones pancreatitis, early cholecystectomy is strongly recommended
  • Prevent abdomen trauma
